A manor in a wooded valley, where a stream runs down to meet the Élorn and the sea is 500 metres away.
Lossulien has stood here since about 1512: a courtyard and portico, the house facing in, a chapel, a mill and a walled garden. What sold it to us was how much of it there is. Cocktails in the square, the ceremony down by the lake, dinner in the reception hall, and the whole valley to wander in between. Brest is ten minutes up the road, though you would never guess it from down here.
Breton granite, windows that keep their original mullions, and a stair turret at the back. The south facade has been a listed monument since 1966, so it looks much as it always did.
Small, with a stone bell tower above the door. It is open all day and worth a few minutes of anyone's time, even though we are marrying outside.
Cocktails in the square, vows by the lake, dinner in the hall.
Beeches line the drive in. Past the courtyard there are hydrangeas, roses and agapanthus, lawns running down to the pond, and a walled kitchen garden laid out as it always was. On Sunday we will be back out in the grounds.
Seven kilometres from Brest, eight from the airport, seven from the station. Parking is free and on site.
We are holding rooms at the Brit Hotel, ten minutes on foot. Say so in your RSVP and we will sort it.
Ceremony at two by the lake, then cocktails in the square and dinner in the hall. Dancing until late late.
